I became a teacher to be that person. To provide structure when things feel uncertain, support when challenges arise, and encouragement when progress feels small. Every day, I strive to meet my students where they are and walk alongside them as they grow—celebrating every step forward, no matter how big or small. For me, teaching is not just a profession; it is a purpose. It is showing up daily to advocate, to guide, and to believe in students who deserve every opportunity to succeed.

My very first year in special education changed me. It showed me strengths I didn’t know I had, and it opened my eyes to just how capable my students truly are. Learning how to connect with them and support their individual needs has been the most powerful and rewarding part of it all.

I would give it back to the special education program in my school, colleagues who deserve more, and Ag for autism that supports teachers and communities with students that have autism or other disabilities that don’t hold them back, but inspire us to help them succeed
