I became a teacher so I could be the change I wanted to see in the world and to be a positive part of a young person’s village.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when one of my students cried on the last day of class. She said she didn’t want to leave. My class had become a safe space for her, and that made my heart glad.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With this amazing blessing, I would fund a program I’m creating to help high school students explore different college and career paths through field trips, purchase a kindle for each of my super-reader students, host a thank-you celebration for my students and their parents and one for my colleagues, re-design my classroom, spruce up my work wardrobe, and save some for a rainy day.
