Learn MoreI became a teacher because I am deeply passionate about science and wanted to share that spark with others. Being fully immersed in the natural world allows me to find joy in my work. I believe that understanding how our world functions, and our place within it, is vital for the future of our planet and society. In my biology classroom, I empower students to explore complex concepts and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the world independently.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceTaking students hunting and fishing is an annual highlight! I love teaching hunter ed and how it fuels wildlife conservation. Beyond the science, showing them how to process and cook a harvest from scratch provides essential life skills. Being a mentor and giving students the tools for outdoor exploration and self-sufficiency is incredibly rewarding. Feeding their curiosity while teaching them to feed themselves is a vital part of their education.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would love to take a small group of students to a National Park to see the wonders this planet holds and be able to financially assist them in this endeavor. So many students would benefit from getting out of our small town, seeing the world, and having a fulfilling experience. My first principal always said," If not you, who?" I take this to heart and try to give my students as many experiences as I can! Any other funds I would use to help fund other local field trips.
