I became a teacher because, throughout my own schooling, I always imagined myself in the classroom one day. I love building meaningful relationships with students and their families and being a steady, positive role model—especially when home life isn’t easy. Nothing compares to the moment a student’s “lightbulb” turns on, their confidence grows, and excitement replaces doubt. Being part of that growth is why I teach.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was our photosynthesis experiment this year. Students explored how chemical reactions work inside plants and why they matter to life on Earth. Watching them use microscopes to observe plant cells and connect it to the science behind it was incredible. They were so engaged and proud, truly feeling like real scientists in action.

If I won $25,000, I would update our science equipment to give students more hands-on experiments and real-world learning. I would also invest in college units to move up the salary schedule and grow professionally. I’d contribute seed money toward building a school gym to spark donations. Personally, paying off my car would ease financial stress and provide greater stability for my family, especially as we support our son with autism.
