I have a heart for children and love watching them grow. That aha! moment is what keeps me going every single day!
Thank you for supporting Myranda Berner in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher because I love watching kids grow not just academically, but as people. As a current 5th grade math and science teacher, I get to spark curiosity? build confidence, and create a classroom where students feel safe and capable. Watching them finally “get it” makes the long days worth it. Teaching is more than just a job for me- it’s purpose, impacts, and heart work all in one.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable moments was during MTSS, I had a student who struggled with reading. He was very self- conscious of it around his peers. He is now the only kid in his group and has made huge gains in my classroom this year. He is now reading, and even has said “I can finally read Miss Berner”. It’s moments like that, that make every hard day worth it.
What would you do with the $25,000?With $25,000, I would purchase hands-on learning kits for science, reading, and math to strengthen our MTSS program. There are so many engaging opportunities I wish I could bring into my classroom. As a Title I school, many of our students come from low-income families and rely on us for these enriching experiences. Providing interactive, joyful learning tools would spark curiosity, build confidence, and truly transform how they see school and themselves.
