Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a positive difference and impact on students. A teacher did that for me, and I hope to be that person in my students’ lives that they know cares and wants them to succeed in school and beyond.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I taught leadership class. We were in charge of all the spirit days, socials, and lunchtime competitions. There was a student who competed in our lip sync battle and for his costume looked like Mariah Carey. I was nervous for him and how the school would respond. You just hope they get a great memory from the experience. The crowd cheered him on and rushed the stage after he was done chanting his name. It was truly magical and life changing for him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to use it to provide school wide functions that have been taken away due to budget cuts: holiday fair, international day, Lawson’s got talent, Lawson’s best dance crew, color clash, and more! It really is a disservice to the students not to have these events anymore. They create a safe and supportive environment for all students to enjoy coming to school. Adding new functions would be really amazing as well :)
