Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I love working with kids; as well as, being an artist. I wanted to teach students to be confident and kind while exploring a variety art mediums. I love having students think creatively about the world and how the arts can help build connections to our world. I have students explore mediums that feel like magic, yet it is incorporating math and science in a fun exciting way. I became an art teacher to build successful students in valuing their work.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was when my kindergarteners were creating symmetrical butterflies and were using scissors (some their first time). They were so proud of themselves for being able to cut out the butterflies. One of my students in the classes was a special needs child and he was able to cut without my guidance, and watching him cut it himself was such a proud moment, anything is possible.

What would you do with the $25,000?

One thing I’d like to do is take some more classes is ceramics, watercolor, and digital art to better my pedagogy. I would also like to use some of the funds to bring some new art materials, such as gelli plates. Lastly if you I would put some towards my student loan.
