Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a social worker because I wanted to be the adult I know many children need — someone who listens, supports, and believes in them. I am passionate about helping students feel safe, understood, and empowered to be themselves. Social work gives me the opportunity to advocate for children, strengthen families, and create environments where every child has the chance to succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most meaningful moments in my career came from a student who chose me as his safe person in school. He would seek me out when his world felt overwhelming, not because I had all the answers, but because he knew he was seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. Over time, our conversations became a place where he could be honest about his fears, frustrations, and hopes. What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded the $25,000, I would use the funding to further create a school environment where every student feels safe, supported, and valued. Many of the students I work with come to school carrying emotional challenges, trauma, or sensory needs that can make learning difficult. My goal is to ensure that school remains a place of stability, understanding, and growth for them.
