Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in children’s lives. Many students, especially in a Title 1 school, face challenges outside of the classroom. Education can open doors and give students opportunities they might not otherwise have. Teaching allows me to encourage them, build their confidence, and help them discover their abilities so they can believe in themselves and their future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was with a student with autism who I helped write a book about his deceased grandfather I encouraged him to bring in real pictures so we could publish his story into a book he could keep forever. Years later, his parents told me the book had always stayed by his bedside. It reminded me how powerful writing can be and how meaningful it is when students are able to tell their own stories.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were fortunate enough to win the $25,000, I would use it to support my family’s future. I would help our daughter with her college education and assist my husband with household bills. He has sacrificed so much for our family, including moving our grandson out of the school district where he was harmed to ensure he had a safer place to learn and grow. This support would lift a tremendous burden for all of us.
