I love teaching because I love seeing the different intricacies of each child as well as the commonalities that bring them all together.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Honestly, I’ve always loved working with kids but I wasn’t sure if teaching was something I would be good at. However, once I started teaching I realized that my love of kids takes me that extra step. I genuinely love going to work everyday, I love volunteering for extra curriculars, and I just want every kid to have a positive memory of school. If I can be a small contributor to that memory, then I did my job.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I recently got hired at my dream school and also happened to coincide with many new opportunities an I became the musical director as well. I have truly loved working with the middle and high school students and getting to know them. My most memorable memory is earning the trust and respect of the senior class. I have formed such a great relationship with this group and I can now help them in ways I couldn’t without that base relationship. This led to me pursuing a masters in school counseling.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As much as I love teaching, it is not always easy and my life outside of teaching was not kind at the beginning of my career. I lost my dad to neuroendocrine cancer 6 months before I graduated college, and I support my mom who has breast cancer. At 26, this has put me in a bit of debt so I would pay that off; put some towards my students; help my mom move; and maybe put some away as a little cushion! Nothing too crazy, but the peace of mind would be the best part.
