Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special education teacher because I wanted to work in the community that has made me who I am today. I wanted to help students with exceptionalities become whatever they want to be in life. Just because they may have disability or an exceptionality as I like to say they still have dreams and aspirations in life and I want to help them reach their goals to do that.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment is when I was doing a unit on the water cycle and they were so engaged on how the world recycles the fresh water supply. They wanted to know more and wanted to know what they could do to help keep our fresh water clean. They were so inquisitive and that is something that is hard for my student population. For me this was amazing because they were critically thinking of ways to help the earth.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would most likely put it back into the classroom to do more projects and project based learning. My students love doing things that are hands on and retain more information that way.
