Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a doctor, but as a child from a low‑income family in the province, medical school was not possible. I became a science education scholar in a state university, where I learned to embrace every opportunity. Today, I am grateful to be a science teacher from the Philippines working in the USA through a cultural exchange program.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Every day brings different moments in my classroom, some challenging, some joyful. One experience I will always remember is making my students smile and laugh. Seeing them laugh not to make fun, but because they felt happy and appreciated, is priceless to me. Those moments remind me why teaching matters and why connection comes first.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were blessed with the $25,000, I would use it with gratitude and purpose. As a single mother after losing my husband while working in the USA, I would save part for my children’s education, support my family in the Philippines, and invest in my school and students by providing much‑needed classroom resources. This gift would truly make a lasting difference.
