Teaching special education these past 42 years isn’t my job, it was my calling, my passion, and a majority of my life’s purpose.

I was a business major when I first started back in 1980 and business wasn’t so great, so my Professor Frank Sorenson asked me if I wanted a job for life and mentioned that special education is always looking for male teachers so I changed my major to Special Education/Elementary Education and have never changed field for 42 years in special education.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience was when I moved to California at Jefferson Middle School in 1990-1992 where the school was 30% Asian, 30% black, 30% Hispanic, and 10% white where I was department head of special education in our School. Rodney King riots came to LAX. It was a scary time, but I loved tacking those junior high students.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would take my wife, my 19 year old son, and myself to Celle, Germany to watch our foreign exchange student, Anna Wollner graduate from high school there in Germany where we were her parent host from July 2023-June 2024 in our home as our host daughter. We would also like to go to Greece, Athens, and Paris along with our heritage of Scottish-Scotland, and many other countries before I get too old and disabled in my knees and back to see the World that is in the Eastern Hemisphere.
