There were 2 teachers in my past who never gave me an opportunity or a chance to develop confidence or growth in what I was doing. I always felt like a blatant outcast. I wanted to be a teacher so that that I could open students’ doors to learning instead of keeping them bolted shut.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was my first year in my present school district. The Band Program I was taking a hold of was left in a mess. The Beginning Band students were left with no direction. The students had no idea how to play. I was able to literally “start over” with them, helping them to get a much better grasp of the instruments they had chosen to start playing. By spring they were able to play some unison songs out of their lesson books as part of our Elementary Spring Concert.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would help my daughters with their educational needs. Both are in college. One wants to be a Screen Writer and one a Teacher
