Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher in my 50’s because I wanted to give back to the school that helped shape my career. I spent 38 years in the medical field while also running my own construction business, gaining hands-on experience and real-world knowledge. When my vocational high school asked me to take over the construction program, I was completely taken back and honored by the opportunity. It felt like everything had come full circle, and I knew it was my chance to guide the next generation into the trade

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as a teacher was when my SkillsUSA team—made up of a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior—won the New Jersey State Championship two years in a row. Watching students from different grade levels come together, work hard, and achieve that level of success was an incredibly proud and rewarding experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am an avid collector of silver coins and would truly cherish the opportunity to add a few special pieces to my collection—especially ones that I might not otherwise be able to afford. Above all, however, my greatest reward isn’t something that can be collected. It’s seeing my students succeed in the trades, building meaningful careers, and then coming back to visit to share their accomplishments. That, to me, is the greatest gift of all.
