Tell us why you became a teacher

During my university years studying physics, I started tutoring high school students. What began as helping with homework quickly turned into something deeper. I saw how one explanation, one moment of understanding, could completely change a student’s confidence. For the past 17 years, I have taught physics. I realized teaching is not only about transferring knowledge; it is about unlocking potential that students often do not yet see in themselves.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as a teacher happened when a group of my students began competing in national and international science competitions. Many of them came from backgrounds where they had never imagined themselves doing research. Watching them design experiments, struggle through difficult concepts, and eventually stand on a stage presenting their work was unforgettable. Some of them later received international recognition for their projects. It was seeing their confidence grow.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest the funding into expanding student research and authentic learning opportunities. Many students have curiosity and talent, but they lack access to mentorship, resources, and structured research experiences. The funding would help build a research program where students can design experiments, work with mentors, and present their work in competitions and conferences.
