Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is in my blood, as I come from a long line of teachers. I knew I wanted to be a teacher at a very young age because I had wonderful teachers growing up. I think children are the future of our world and it is important to be a positive role model for them. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, after 16 years of teaching I understand that it is both an art and a science. At the end of the day if one student knows I’m their worth because of my class, it was a good day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience for me is when you see your former students and they remember the fun in your class, the learning that took place, the silly things that happened that made lasting memories in their life. Sometimes learning doesn’t come from curriculum but from life experiences. Seeing their faces years later excited about what seems like “just everyday” means so much as the days can be long and the years short.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Our school has been building an outdoor classroom, this money could help add items to this area at our school. We could use more science materials like microscopes, burners, beakers and experiment materials that this money could help purchase. I am not sure what a sink would cost but if I had one in my classroom it would help out so much for science.
