Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher, and specifically a science teacher, because I love helping students discover the world around them. Science is everywhere in our lives, and I wanted to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and excitement about how things work. Middle school can be a tough time, and I also wanted to be someone who encourages students, helps them believe in themselves, and makes learning meaningful and fun. Watching students grow, gain confidence, and realize what they’re capable of.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences as a teacher was when a student who had always struggled with science finally had a breakthrough during a hands on experiment. Seeing the excitement on their face when everything clicked, the “aha” moment was unforgettable. It reminded me why I became a science teacher, to spark curiosity, build confidence, and show students that they CAN understand and love learning, even subjects that once seemed impossible. That moment stayed with me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would take care of essentials, paying bills, saving for emergencies, and creating financial stability. Teaching is rewarding but doesn’t always allow for flexibility, so this would give me peace of mind and let me focus fully on my classroom. Next, I would invest in my students’ learning experiences. As a science teacher, hands on experiments, lab supplies, and educational resources make lessons exciting and engaging. Finally, I would use a small portion to treat myself.
