Tell us why you became a teacher

It's my lifetime goal to help each child understand that it's ok to struggle, struggle means growth. Struggle means finding their capabilities and strength within themselves. Finding their "I CAN".

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

While teaching 5th grade math, I called on a student to answer a question. He smiled and shook his head to say "no". Rather than moving on to another student, I broke the questions down, helping this student through the process to find his "yes". He did it, he understood the why. Through the years this student has become a leader in everything he does, he found his "I CAN". I think of this student and his excitement to when he found it daily. It gives me my "I CAN".

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have started a Math and Science Club in our title 1 school. I would invest the $25,000 into projects that would continue to build these programs for the students. To help them build and grow within their own curiosities. There is a world out there that I want to help them find.
