Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because music changed my life, but not always in easy ways. I’ve experienced the joy, discipline, and the pressure that come with music education, and that shaped how I teach today. I strive to foster environments where students can grow as musicians while also feeling supported, capable, and valued. For me, teaching is about helping students build confidence, find connection, and realize they belong in spaces they may have once doubted.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had a student that was struggling outside of class. Instead of focusing only on performance, we created a plan that prioritized their well-being and progress. Watching them regain confidence and finish strong reminded me that teaching is about the whole person, not just the subject.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to fund the second year of my Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education. This investment allows me to bring research-based, student-centered practices into my classroom, improving access, retention, and student success. It’s not just an investment in me, it’s an investment in every student I teach.
