Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help students learn in ways that work best for them. I struggled in elementary school and know how discouraging that can feel. Because of that, I’m passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where all students feel valued and capable. I want every child to know they can succeed, even if they learn differently.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences happened six years after I had a student in 6th grade. They came back to tell me I was one of their favorite teachers and that they appreciated how I challenged them academically while also making them feel valued and capable. Hearing that meant everything to me. That student has since found success in dance and theater, and I couldn’t be more proud.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would use it to remodel parts of my family’s home. We live in an older home that we truly love, but it could use some updates. This opportunity would allow us to make some much-needed upgrades while keeping the character and memories that make it so special to our family.
