Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt it was the best way to reach kids and inspire growth and change. I also remember a few teachers when I was younger that really made a great impact on my life.. so that is who I aspire to be for my students.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I work with kids who have behavior issues. Many of the students that come to us have experienced loss, trauma, and other issues kids shouldn’t have to experience. One of my students who struggled with trusting adults due to past experience ended up opening up and forming a strong, positive relationship with me. After this student moved to a different grade, he was asked to write about someone in his life whom he considered a hero. He wrote about me and gave me a copy.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the 25,000 I would like to use it to offer a range of sensory items to my schools sensory rooms for our students who struggle with self-regulation. I would also like to consider further education and put money towards that.
