Megan

I love teaching second grade because that’s when the world starts to click for kids—and I get to be the guide in that magical moment.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help kids have the same joy and excitement in learning that I had when I was in elementary school. I feel like it is comforting, genuine, and humble. Teaching focuses more on your love of learning and helping kids rather than on personal achievement. I love seeing the “light bulb” turn on when kids learn something new and succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have loved being a “performance based” teacher creating memorable experiences. I always want teaching and learning to be fun and engaging with a purpose. I love having former students return to visit as high school and college students and share their memories of their time as part of my classroom family when they were in elementary school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000 dollars I might • $12,000 → emergency fund • $6,000 → retirement investment • $4,000 → pay off debt/put it toward my 4 personal children’s college debt • $2,000 → restorative vacation • $1,000 → something joyful
