Ultimately, I became a teacher because I care deeply about all children and their futures. I believe every student deserves someone who will advocate for them, challenge them, love them, and celebrate not only their growth, but them as individuals. Teaching gives me the opportunity every day to inspire curiosity, nurture resilience, and help students see that their voices and ideas matter. Each day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and make a positive difference in the lives of children.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Towards the end of the year a student was reading a passage during small groups. It was a text that earlier in the year would have been too difficult. As he read, he was decoding words independently, using expression, & reading with confidence. As he finished, he looked up at me with the biggest smile & said, “I didn’t think I could ever read like that.” I felt an overwhelming sense of pride; not just because of academic growth, but because of the transformation he saw in himself as a learner.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Support my classroom and children by ensuring that every child has proper access to high quality education, by providing meaningful learning experiences like field trips, guest speakers, and invest in high-quality literacy & math resources. I would also support family's by sending books and other resources home with students and hosting events that help strengthen the connection between school and home. Lastly, accelerate opportunities in helping families with education.
