Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is my second career and true calling. After a 14-year career at the same company, my late grandmother's memory inspired me to take a leap and pursue my real passion. I became a special education teacher to bring the joy of science to all learners. Whether we are exploring real-world phenomena or learning horticulture in our classroom, my mission is to make education accessible and engaging. Seeing my students' daily growth proves that I finally answered the right call.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moments happen during our Biology Naked Egg Osmosis Lab. We dissolve eggshells in vinegar to expose the membrane, then watch them shrink in syrup and swell in water. For my high school special education students, this turns an abstract concept into a squishy, tangible phenomenon they can actually hold. Seeing their eyes light up with pure discovery proves that hands-on learning unlocks their potential and makes complex science truly come alive.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning $25,000 would be life-changing. First, I'd invest in our special education program to bring accessible, hands-on science to our school for generations to come. By funding adaptive lab tools, we can break down barriers so every student experiences the thrill of discovery. The remainder would go toward securing the future for my two children. It would be an absolute blessing to invest in the next generation, both at school and at home.
