Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because growing up, my mom and grandmother were both teachers. I was reminded everyday of the beauty that teaching is. The love and passion they put into it, was inspiring. I wanted to replicate that and be like both of them. When I decided to go into special education, it was a passion I found in college. When working with students I felt extreme joy and gratitude that I was able to watch them flourish, I enjoyed seeing the students succeed and overcoming challenges

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience, was when I was in my first year teaching. I was teaching middle school in a self contained classroom (also during Covid). I was reminded of the joy, when students wouldn’t want to log off. We would eat lunch together, have conversations, and play games. The students wouldn’t love to make presentations and share them during this time. What I learned was the value of love and compassion. The affect it has on students that gives them joy and eagerness to learn

What would you do with the $25,000?

What I would do, with $25,000 is a whole lot. I would start by giving back to my mom, the inspiration behind me. My why. And why I come everyday to work. I would pay a little of my student loan off, I would donate to my high school baseball team. Get the equipment and gear they deserve to have, I’d buy ann engagement ring, And finally, I would build a classroom that gives my students the most access to the education to must receive.
