Tell us why you became a teacher

I always wanted to be a teacher. In middle school and high school, I would help friends and classmates out with math problems. I remember my 6th grade math teacher pulled me to the side and told me I would be a great math teacher one day. Well, my math days ended after college, but I ended up majoring in political science and eventually became a social science teacher. It feels amazing know I am living out the career I saw myself doing as a kid!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One day our ASB spirit theme was “Red or Green Flag,” where students had to wear a green or red shirt to school and say what was a green/red flag about them. To play along, at the end of each class, I told my students I am passing around a paper that says green flag on one side and red flag on the other. Feel free to write one green/red flag about me and keep it anonymous! Students left so many green flag comments about me and the red flag comments weren’t anything serious! Relationships matter!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would give my 6 month old son the best 1st birthday party ever!!
