Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves to feel seen, capable, and supported. Growing up, I didn’t always have the teacher I needed—someone who truly believed in me and met me with patience and encouragement. So I decided to become the teacher I didn’t have. I strive to be a steady presence, to notice the quiet ones, advocate for the misunderstood, and remind every student that they matter and can succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was with a student who believed he hated school and rarely participated. During a simple ice cream sandwich eating competition, I saw him laugh, connect, and fully engage with his classmates. That moment became a turning point. From then on, he participated more and slowly came out of his shell.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’d use part of the $25,000 to take my parents on a trip as a way to thank them for everything they’ve done for me. They supported me through college—emotionally and financially—and I wouldn’t be where I am without them. Giving them that experience would be my way of showing appreciation, creating memories together, and giving back to the people who gave me so much.
