I initially became a teacher because I felt that it was the perfect job in which to raise a family. It would allow me to be with my children more, including being their science teacher. Coming from a large district growing up I wished for my children to be in a small district. When the opportunity arose, I took it and have been here ever since. I remained teaching because of the relationships I developed with the kids, parents, community and the family-like working atmosphere. I love teaching!

I'd have to say my most memorable experience was when my GT students wanted to keep the chicks we hatched in the classroom as their year-long project. Once the chicks hatched, the GT students created a persuasive presentation to gain approval from the principal. It has been game on ever since. They have shared responsibility of taking care of them. There were 2 that died and they held a funeral. They got donations of a coop, feed, and supplies. Their goal is to incubate and sell eggs. Fun!

If I was to receive the $25,000 I would first put it into a money market account. As it begins to accrue interest, I would like to donate the interest to help my campus science lab to restock inventory. We are a Title 1 school and could really use the extra funds. Doing this would help to offset the taxes I would have to pay for winning of the $25,000 and help the school as well. Being that I am within 5 years of retirement the extra money would help pay for expenses once that time arrives.
