As a high school Spanish teacher, I watch teens find their voice, embrace culture, and grow into confident young adults.

I became a teacher because education changed my life. Language opened doors, built confidence, and gave me a voice. I wanted to create that same opportunity for my students—especially those who doubt themselves. Teaching allows me to empower young people to think critically, embrace their identities, and see themselves as capable leaders in a global world.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moment was watching a quiet student with an IEP deliver her first full presentation in Spanish after months of encouragement and scaffolding. She had once refused to speak. That day, she spoke with confidence and pride while her classmates applauded. It reminded me that growth is not always loud—but when it happens, it changes everything.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use part of the funds to give my students unforgettable cultural experiences—live Spanish theater, museums, and real-world immersion that many of them would not otherwise have access to. The remaining funds would help me pursue a Master’s degree in Spanish, so I can continue growing, leading with excellence, and giving my students the very best version of myself every day.
