Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching wasn't my first choice; I originally set out to become an ultrasound technician. To support my studies, I took a job as a teacher’s aide, and that experience changed everything. I realized that the fulfillment I sought in healthcare—helping and caring for others—was happening right in front of me in the classroom. I fell in love with the daily impact of mentorship and student growth. I’m choosing teaching because I discovered it’s where I truly belong.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In 2020, a new student joined our class, completely shut down by the transition. As an aide, I spent weeks building a bridge of trust, slowly turning their anxiety into a sense of belonging. The day they finally felt brave enough to raise their hand and smile, I realized the care I once wanted to provide in a clinic had found a better home in the classroom. Watching them finally feel "at home" changed my path forever; I knew then that teaching was where I truly belonged.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning this would be a transformative step for my career. I would dedicate the $25,000 toward the educational debt I incurred while transitioning from a teacher’s aide to a certified educator. By easing the financial burden of the schooling that brought me to this profession, I can focus entirely on my students and my growth as a leader. This award is an investment in my long-term ability to serve the next generation, ensuring I can continue giving my best to every child I teach.
