I became a teacher to help children discover their worth. One teacher believed in me and showed me the difference one person can make. Now I guide students to grow confidence, character, and a love of learning. Every child learns differently, but all matter. I want every student to leave knowing their life, words, and actions matter, and that they have the power to brighten the world simply by being themselves.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was being contacted by a former co-worker about a former student, Jacob. His rugby team from Fresno State just won the collegiate national championship and he said in a celebratory interview ‘I always try to compete as a virtuous athlete, something I learned from Ms. Juergens at San Carlos.’ Truly a blessing to see character lessons last.

If I won $25,000, I would give a little to every staff member at GH Elementary, an ice cream for every student in the school, donate a portion to my church, and buy items for my class: a glow party, center games, crafts, STEM kits, giant floor puzzles, and glow-in-the-dark learning tools. I’d also fund the musical ‘Three of a Kind’ with costumes and backdrop, and put a little extra toward remodeling my own home.
