I became a teacher because I once was a student who struggled. In second grade, I had a teacher who was kind, warm, and made me feel truly seen and safe in her classroom. Because of her, I began to believe in myself and enjoyed learning. From then on, I knew I wanted to be the supportive adult I needed as a child. Creating a safe, encouraging classroom environment where students grow their thinking, curiosity, and confidence is the most fulfilling career I could have.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was watching a student who had significant academic and behavioral needs, finally believe in himself. After weeks of encouragement and scaffolded support, he had the courage to share his presentation with the class for the first time. The smile and confidence he showed reminded me why I became a teacher, to help students feel safe, capable, and proud of their growth. Powerful moments like that make teaching incredibly meaningful and rewarding.

If I received the reward, I would invest back into my classroom and ongoing personal and professional development, because the learning never stops! I would purchase engaging, high quality texts at various levels so my students could have equitable access to learning. I'd fund personal and professional passion projects that spark curiosity and creativity. As a lifelong learner, I would pursue EdTech professional learning opportunities to further advance my skills and practice.
