Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education can change the course of a child’s life. As a bilingual educator, I wanted to be the teacher I once needed—someone who sees students’ strengths, honors their language and culture, and helps them believe in themselves. Teaching allows me to open doors, build confidence, and give students the tools to succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was watching a student who once refused to speak English confidently present in front of the class. Seeing the pride on their face—and the applause from classmates—reminded me that growth isn’t just academic. It’s about courage, belonging, and realizing you are capable of more than you imagined.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to fix essential things around my home, creating a more stable space for my family, and to purchase materials my classroom needs. From books and hands-on resources to supplies that support diverse learners, this would allow me to better serve my students while strengthening the foundation that lets me show up for them every day.
