Maria Mejia

I love teaching because I get to watch children grow, not just physically but mentally & emotionally. They come to me for help and I do that

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because when I was a little girl I had the best 5th grade teacher. Marcy Bildt. I did not have the best childhood, and life was in fact hard. Even as a fifth grader I would think to myself how I wasn’t special how I was not important. But whenever I walked into Mrs Bildts Class I felt not only important but special. I looked forward to going to class she would help me to see I had potential and that’s how I wanted to make children feel.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

All of my children are memorable, but one thing that will always stick out to me no matter how many times it happens is how children light up when they see me after the weekend. I know the world hates Mondays but I love them, because I get to hear about my kids weekends and all the adventures they had. I love listening to all the details in their stories because to them it makes all the difference.

What would you do with the $25,000?

25,000$ would change my life. I know everyone says that, but it would get me out of debt and help me to obtain my Bachelors degree to become a 5th grade teacher which has been my dream since I was in 5th grade. I would also use a portion to invest in my classroom. I would get my children supplies to help make learning experiences even better.
