Tell us why you became a teacher

I always loved family trips and watching my younger cousins. I began babysitting as early as I could as well. While I got through school and college just fine, it didn’t always come easy to me. I find joy in helping those who need more time/or have to work a little harder whether or not they have a learning disability.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Watching a little boy with Down syndrome I helped in the general ed classroom learn to read more and more smoothly then eventually even comprehend. I’ve always tried to emphasize unity and inclusion to my classes and love when they actually do come together.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would begin with donations to the autism society, Alzheimer’s association, and the epilepsy foundation. I would also treat my husband and daughter to some nice meals, update my wardrobe, and treat other hard working friends to a spa day :).
