Learn MoreI wanted to be a Biology teacher but my aunt and dad talked me out of it. So I became an elementary teacher but still LOVED science. That is when I went back to school and got my General Science degree. As a teacher I get to do hands on activities and watch that lightbulb go off in a student as they figure out what they are learning and the connections to the real world.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy memorable moments are many in my teaching career. The one that stands out the most was just recently. This year I am the K-8 STEAM teacher. One of my classes I teach is students who have different levels of autism. I taught the students squishy circuits and they were so happy when their LED light lite up. One boy still comes down to my classroom and takes the squishy circuits materials and puts it together on his own and lights up the LED lights. His excitement makes my heart melt.
What would you do with the $25,000?I work in a school that has a very limited budget to buy science supplies to fill both the Creation Station and the Boiler Room which students get to come and do hands on science activities. Also, I want to bring Material Science to students in the older grades at Duquesne. With the 25,000 dollars can bring a lot of science to a small community.
