Tell us why you became a teacher

My first grade teacher changed my life. I struggled to read and felt embarrassed, but she saw my potential. She worked with me one-on-one and even gave up part of her summer to help me improve. Because of her patience and belief in me, I learned to read and gained confidence. She didn’t just teach me words—she showed me I was capable, and that inspired me to become a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was helping a struggling student who believed he wasn’t “good at school.” We met for extra support, celebrated small wins, and focused on building confidence. Over time, he began raising his hand and reading aloud proudly. At the end of the year, he wrote, “I love you and will miss you.” That moment reminded me teaching is about sharing a love for learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Becoming an educator required years of schooling and dedication, and like many teachers, I carry the financial weight of that investment. Paying off my student loans would relieve a significant burden, allowing me to focus more fully on my students and less on financial stress. It would give me greater stability, freedom, and peace of mind, and allow me to continue serving in education without the constant pressure of debt.
