Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special education teacher because I believe every child deserves to be seen, understood, and given the opportunity to succeed no matter the challenges they face. Whether it’s mastering a reading goal, improving socially, or simply gaining the confidence to participate in class, those moments remind me why I chose this path. Progress in special education isn’t always loud or immediate sometimes it’s quiet, steady growth but it is deeply meaningful. Students have taught me just as much.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was walking into a 5th grade classroom and being greeted by a wave of students rushing toward me with hugs and pure excitement. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of love and connection. It reminded me that the impact we make as teachers goes far beyond academics. The love from those students was more powerful than anything I could have imagined. Their joy, trust, and genuine appreciation reaffirmed why I chose this profession.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded $25,000, I would invest in both my personal growth and my students’ success. I would use a portion to achieve personal goals, such as furthering my education or creating stability for my future. Another portion would go toward classroom resources and materials to enhance learning experiences. This grant would allow me to stay focused on making a lasting impact in education while supporting students with purpose and dedication.
