Tell us why you became a teacher

I believe a love of learning begins early and requires thoughtful nurturing. The early years shape confidence, curiosity, and character. I want every child to feel safe and capable from the very beginning of their school experience. I have always loved working with children, and it is incredibly rewarding to see their growth and be a part of it. I love their natural curiosity and expanding their knowledge through play and intentional, hands-on learning experiences that build strong foundations.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was taking my Pre-K class on their first field trip to a sugar beet field. I truly value fun, relatable experiences that connect learning to our local community, and this was one of them. Students enjoyed every part, from the bus ride to standing in a wide-open field, seeing a tractor, pulling beets from the ground, and even trying a bite. Their excitement was a powerful reminder of how simple, hands-on learning can expand knowledge in meaningful ways.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest a portion for strengthening science experiences for our youngest students at Drayton Public School. As budgets tighten and funding prioritizes reading and math, science opportunities have become limited for many children. I would expand hands-on materials, outdoor exploration tools, and play-based, inquiry-driven learning to spark curiosity. Every child deserves to see themselves as a scientist from the very beginning of their school journey, and to experience joyful learning.
