Learn MoreI became a teacher because of an amazing science teacher I had in middle school. His energy, humor, and genuine excitement made me excited about learning. I strive to create the same kind of environment for students entering my classroom. Though I was fortunate enough to have had many great teachers, I will remember him forever because he made strong connections with his students. I want to be able to reach those kids who felt like they hadn't been seen before, just as I had felt in school.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is from last year. I had a student who was struggling in many subjects and she hit a point where she decided she didn't want to be behind anymore. Her work ethic, engagement, and grit in her learning helped her grow so much as a student and a person. Seeing her confidence and pride flourish with every little success is why I do the job. All those little moments make teaching the best job in the world.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I was awarded $25,000, I would go back to school to get my masters degree in teaching. I have been wanting to take this step for years and that kind of money would make it possible.
