I became a teacher because I remember what it felt like to be overlooked. School wasn’t easy for me, and I was often passed by—until one teacher truly saw me. That changed everything. I teach to be that person for my scholars—to see them for who they are, not their struggles or labels. I want every child to feel valued, known, and deeply believed in.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

School wasn’t easy for me, and I often felt on the outside. One year, a scholar with severe dyslexia wrote, “I can’t read or write,” and broke down in tears. I met them where they were, shared my own struggles, and reminded them they were capable. They worked harder than anyone I’ve seen and earned our school’s highest honor. To this day, they bring me their scores, and we celebrate every win together.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, the very first thing I would do is invest directly into my classroom—wobble stools, hands-on materials, and the resources my scholars truly need but I haven’t been able to afford on my own. Every dollar would be poured back into creating a space where they can thrive. The rest I would save and invest wisely, so it can grow—because the more I build, the more I can give back to my scholars and community.
