Tell us why you became a teacher

I have AuDHD with sensory processing disorder, & school was my favori place as a kid. I became a teacher to help children feel understood & seen, & to be able to help them learn in ways best suited for their brains. I teach to preserve kids' childhood by engaging them in learning through play, multimodal sensory experiences, and making every lesson full of joyful intentional learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I teach a collaborative class with a mixture of students with disabilities, and those without. One of my most memorable teaching experience includes a lesson in friendship between those who look, communicate, feel, & think differently. We have students who use AAC who were able to demonstrate their understanding and feelings throughout the book, giving concrete & real life understanding that those who live differently than us are the same, they just may do things differently!!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use this money to gain accessibility to opportunities and affordable therapies for my son, who lives with Fragile X, autism, adhd, & spd. I would use part of this money, too, to invest in the reach of my classroom within an undersupported population in my classroom family, & pay off some debt to free up the funds we bring in each month!
