I became a teacher because I believe education transforms lives. As a bilingual educator, I understand the courage it takes to learn in two languages and navigate two cultures. One of my most memorable teaching moments was watching a shy bilingual student present in front of the class for the first time. At the beginning of the year, she barely spoke and often avoided eye contact. With consistent encouragement and support, she slowly found her voice. The day she presented confidently, her classmates immediately cheered for her. In that moment, it wasn’t about an assignment—it was about a child realizing she could be heard.

I would use the $25,000 to help care for my mom, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s two years ago. Supporting her has become a big part of my life, both emotionally and financially. I would also use it to bring more resources into my classroom for my bilingual students, because like my mom, they remind me every day how important patience, dignity, and support truly are. This wouldn’t just ease a burden—it would help me keep showing up for the people who matter most.
