Connect Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because it came natural for me (so I’m told). I wanted to teach 46 years ago but didn’t and fate finally brought me to teaching last year. I like making a genuine impact on people and I’ve learned I connect well with children of all ages and types. I’m not specially been able to connect quickly and accurately with children with Autism and special needs. Why not harness the super power that’s been given to me for exactly what it’s been given to me for? That’s why I’m teaching.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was when I had to leave mid year last year without having the choice to leave mid year because my own daughter with special needs was being forced by her school out of taking a bus. Leaving mid year, I had no idea the impact I had made on my 42 students when I had announced I had no choice but to take care of my daughter. I knew I was meant to be teaching at that point.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in some teaching training that I could use to better my teaching of those on the autism spectrum. I would ensure my family was taken care of while I complete these trainings and only thrive from there.
