Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an educator to make a difference. Growing up, I watched my younger brother struggle in school and I watched my mother go back to school to become a teacher herself. Both of them came over their obstacles and pushed through. They are both huge inspirations to me and knowing anyone is capable of anything is why I became an educator. Students need to have someone that believes in them, no matter the path they choose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I had four students who were letting rumors ruin their friendship. One day, all four decided upon themselves that they were not going to have recess, but sit in our work room and resolve their issues. I had previously taught two of the four students that we need to learn to start communicating with each other instead of listening to people who are not involved. Teaching is not just subjects, it’s emotional regulation and accountability. I felt proud they applied what I taught them on their own.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to win and recieve the 25,000, I would apply the money to our schools clubs, so they are able to have funds to accomplish more than they already do. The amazing teachers and students here deserve all they can get! I would also like to use some of the money to help fund my Masters program tuition. I would love to become a principal one day and earn a Masters in Educational Leadership.
