Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education has the power to transform lives from the inside out. I have always felt called to serve, guide, and nurture young minds during some of their most formative years. Teaching allows me to create a safe, loving environment where children feel seen, valued, and capable of success. I became a teacher not just to teach reading and math, but to build confidence, character, and curiosity. I want my students to know they are intelligent, and resilient.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most memorable experiences in my teaching career happened during my time teaching first grade. I had a student who began the year significantly behind in reading and struggled with confidence. Whenever we worked in small groups, she would whisper, avoid eye contact, and sometimes shut down completely if she thought she might get an answer wrong. Instead of focusing solely on the academic gap, I intentionally worked to build her confidence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As a struggling teacher and single parent, $25,000 would be life-changing. A portion would help me provide stability for my family—covering essential needs and allowing me to continue advancing my education so I can be the best educator possible for my students. Giving back is important to me, so I would donate a portion to support our school’s art and music department so students can continue expressing their creativity, and I would give another portion to my church.
