Tell us why you became a teacher

I knew this was my true passion after working with special needs over 15 years as a direct care worker, I have been able to be apart of growth and making a real difference that will have a lasting positive influence on their lives, help them build confidence in themselves, being an advocate and being supportive for my students and to have a true purpose that makes a difference in others lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It was when a parent told me how the student is more vocal and how the behaviors he had has increased since I have been placed in the the classroom setting that I currently teach and the students come in daily and hug me and say thank you everyday with a smiles on their faces. The progress they have made over the last few years have been amazing and heartwarming.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would update my classroom, get technology such as iPads and computers for all my students, get things that are on teachers and students wish list, get things we need at the school, work on another endorsement that could further my education in the special needs field, have a special fund that pays for field trips, community events and outing for special needs students needs that are important for their growth and success.
