Tell us why you became a teacher

I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher. Teaching has always felt like both a vocation and a calling to me. I believe deeply in giving back to my community. As the daughter of immigrants, I often relied on my teachers for academic support when my parents were unable to help. I admired them greatly; they encouraged me, believed in me, and helped shape my confidence. Because of their influence, I have always felt a strong obligation to give back and support students as well.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It’s difficult to pinpoint one single memorable moment, but the true highlights are the “ah‑ha” or light‑bulb moments that students experience almost every day. At times, they doubt their ability to understand a concept or believe they just can’t do it. But when that light‑bulb moment happens—when they suddenly realize they can understand and succeed—that is the rewarding and memorable experience that keeps me motivated and moving forward.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Pencils, pencils, and more pencils. All kidding aside, the funds would support updated science resources and tools. Our school was established in 1958, and many materials are outdated. My classroom still uses chalkboards, and I hope to modernize it with a Smart Board. Our science department shares only about 25 working Chromebooks and lacks a full set of microscopes. Funding would greatly improve student learning and hopefully success.
