Watching students turn curiosity into action reminds me that they can dream boldly, take risks, and change the world.
Thank you for supporting Logan Williams in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I teach to help students discover their passions and realize the power within them. I watch them take risks, tackle challenges, and turn curiosity into bold action, often surprising themselves. Seeing their ideas become real change reminds me that when students are given space and trust, they can move the world.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceWhile teaching an international relations class, my students learned about the genocide in Darfur. Moved by the scale of loss, 20 students organized outreach, media, and collection themselves, gathering over 30,000 shoes from around the world. I supported them by listening, guiding, and giving their ideas room to grow. The empty shoes, placed at the Capitol Reflecting Pool, became a powerful symbol of how students can turn awareness into meaningful action.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would donate $10,000 to the Arms Wide Open Foundation, honoring my friends Ryan and Jen from CrossFit Burke, whose daughter Sadie died from cancer, to support research and programs that bring hope to families facing pediatric cancer. Childhood cancer receives only a tiny fraction of cancer research funding—around 4%—making every donation essential to advancing treatment and support for kids and their families.
